As many of you know, I’m a huge fan of the art of “freeing” ourselves from the digital world. I’m here to share with you how I’m working to make this happen. Let’s start with the basics.
We live in a digital world with a finite amount of time. We spend so much of our day being plugged into the internet that it’s almost impossible to get away from. As the average person struggles to stay connected to the web, the most common way to escape is to buy a smart phone with a high-speed data plan. Many of us forget to set the phone’s “do not disturb” option to be “do not disturb”.
This is why many of us forget to set the phone do not disturb option to be do not disturb. But you don’t need to be on the internet to be disconnected from reality. With an app or a smart alarm clock you can be in contact with reality much more quickly and with much less distraction.
This is why I think a smart alarm clock is one of the best ways to stay connected, not just within the day. My husband and I have a smart alarm clock that gets us through all the day’s events in a much more reasonable time.
Another smart alarm clock is one that tracks your sleep and alerts you when you should be up and about. It also sends you alerts when you should be asleep. This works well for me because I tend to sleep about an hour below normal and I tend to stay asleep if I don’t get my phone up to the alarm when I wake up.
The only problem with this is that clock is a very limited technology. It will only be as good as the sleep of the person who is using it. This makes it a poor choice for the average person. A smart alarm clock might be able to detect the sleep patterns of your own spouse, but it will be very limited in its capabilities.
If you want a modern alarm clock, I recommend the one from Philips. It has a 5-hour timer and a variety of features you won’t find anywhere else. Plus, it’s very accurate, which is very important for anyone who is trying to sleep.
For the person who has their phone or laptop constantly in use, there’s the option to use an alarm clock. However, the only way to set the alarm is with a smartphone app. The only way to set the alarm is with a smartphone app. We’re definitely not recommending you use a smartphone app to set your alarm. Because it would be very easy to set your alarm manually with a button on your phone.
But with the right app, it’s actually possible to set your alarm and still sleep. This app is called digital. Digital is a small, simple app that tells your phone that you need to set an alarm to get a certain amount of sleep. Your phone then does just that. I don’t know how accurate it is, but it does work really well.
I think the app is accurate if you’re used to buying your alarm clock by asking your phone to set it, but it will be terrible if you haven’t dealt with it before. If you’re not used to dealing with your alarm clock, it will be extremely confusing.
