The food at this restaurant is worth every penny. The chef is top notch. His dishes are amazing. The wine is top notch. The ambiance is top notch. The service is top notch. The price is good. I love this place.

When I first tried to imagine the worst places to eat in the US there is a pretty good chance that I was imagining a place called a “sloppy burrito joint,” or a “gulag.” In fact, if you add up all the places I could imagine, that would make the worst place to eat in the US. But Costa del Sol is a city that has developed a reputation for being the worst place to eat in Italy.
If you haven’t already guessed, Costa del Sol is not actually the worst place to eat in Italy. That honor went to Rome itself. But Costa del Sol is not as terrible as Rome. In fact, it’s one of the best Italian restaurants in the world.
You see, Costa del Sol is a city, not a region. It has two regions, the Italian region of South Tyrol, and the Austrian region of Salzburg. And they are the two largest regions in the country, with about 30 million people living within a 10-15 minute drive of one another. So when people say Costa del Sol is the worst place to eat in the US, they are probably referring to Salzburg, not Costa del Sol.
