Many of the best real estate agents Ive dealt with have been the ones that were not only very good at showing me the house I wanted, but at negotiating to get me what I wanted. The problem is that many of the best agents are the worst at negotiating. They dont have a good feel for what a house is worth, they dont have a good feel for what its worth to sell it, and many of them dont know how to sell a home.
So in the last three years I’ve worked with a number of agents that have been very good at helping me negotiate the price of my properties. One agent was very good at negotiating house prices. Another one was good at negotiating house prices, but not the most accurate at it. Another one was good at negotiating house prices, but not the most accurate at it. A few were just good at negotiating. All of the best agents Ive worked with were all the best at negotiating.
The last thing you want to do is sell yourself short and try and negotiate a price just to save a few bucks. If you’re trying to get a better price, you’ll need to be able to give a better price. You’ll need to be more accurate, and more precise. And you’ll need to look more closely at things you think you know.
