I’ve never had a chance to travel to the south of France and I know there are some amazing places to see and experience. I’m usually left wanting to expand my travel horizons and discover more of the world. This week I had the opportunity to go to the airport in the south of France and I couldn’t wait to see the new arrivals.
I had no idea that they had built and were building new airports there, but I’m glad they did. I always thought that the bigger airports was a good thing because it would allow more efficient connections and reduce the amount of time an airline takes to get people to a destination. I was wrong, but I can easily see why people would want to go to the bigger airports.
Some people think that larger airports are more efficient because they have more space for people to move around. Thats nonsense. For example, in the US, the biggest city in the US is Detroit. Its population is 1 million, but it houses over 70,000 people. In order to move an airplane from Detroit to New York, you have to transfer 10 flights and that takes about 4 hours. Thats not even taking into account the fact that the airports are HUGE.
As for the bigger airports in France, Paris is the most populous city. Its population is about 11 million. The two airports in Paris are La Défense and Charles de Gaulle. La Défense has a 4.5 million passenger capacity and is the second busiest airport in Europe, with about 1.5 million flights per year. Charles de Gaulle has a 5 million passenger capacity and is the fifth busiest airport in Europe.
The bigger airports in France are more than just a means to travel. Once you’re in France, you feel like you’re in France and not just an airport. It’s not just about the flights, you feel like the airport, the people, the food, and the shops are more French than in the states.
